Current Position

JHU Campus.jpg

Starting from Jan 2021, I have been working at Johns Hopkins University at Whiting School of Engineering as a postdoc researcher. My main research focus is the wireless actuation of magnetic robots towards minimally invasive surgeries. This field would revolutionize the current surgical operations by replacing the surgical tools of doctors with wireless robots, and the doctors will implement teleoperation techniques that would allow them to implement surgeries remotely as well.

Education

Max Planck Institute

A significant portion of my Ph.D. studies has taken place at the Max Planck Institute, Stuttgart, Germany. I have received the Max-Planck-Institut Scholarship and conducted my research in Physical Intelligence Department by using its facilities. I worked in this institute for 4 years (2016-2020) and received my Ph.D. degree from Carnegie Mellon University at the end of 2020. My studies in this institute have demonstrated the potential use of MRI devices for not only imaging but also wirelessly powering miniature robots towards medical operations.

Carnegie Mellon University

I started my direct Ph.D. program at Carnegie Mellon University, Mechanical Engineering Department, Pittsburgh, PA, USA. I joined this program right after the completion of my B.Sc. in 2014. My Ph.D. thesis title is Wireless Actuation, Imaging, and Control of MRI-powered Magnetic Robots with MRI Devices. In my studies, I converted clinical MRI devices into a robotic manipulation platform. I also designed and manufactured millimeter- and centimeter-scale miniature robots for various medical operations. I have also conducted research on manufacturing and powering soft robots such as McKibben artificial muscles and magnetic soft robots.

Sabanci University

I received my B.Sc. in Sabanci University Mechatronics Engineering in 2014. The campus is one of the best campuses located in Istanbul, Turkey. During my time at this university, I also founded and managed the Sabanci University Nanotechnology Club. As a highlighted club event, we assisted the 7th International Nanotechnology and Nanoscience Conference. I led about 50 student workers in this activity. I graduated from Sabanci University as a Valedictorian (ranked 1st in the class) with a GPA of 3.92/4.00.
